How do you measure success?

When I first started making gold, I had a very easy way of determining success. It was by the number of mounts I had obtained. This was because my whole reasoning behind making gold was to reach the mountain of mounts achievement.

However, now things have changed. I've surpassed the original gold cap, which has gone the way of the dinosaurs, and my new goal is now 1,000,000 Gold. That's a large goal, so what I do to stay motivated is set small goals along the way.

It may be a new piece of gear or something small here and there for an alt. Or it may be a huge gold sink. Whatever the case, I use these building blocks to step my way too my goal.

So here is my question, whatever your gold making capabilites are at this point in time, how do you measure success? What are important factors that make you feel accomplished? It could simply be the amount of Gold you have in your bag, or it could be the amount of auctions you have listed and sold. Or it could be that new sweet piece of gear you just bought. Whatever it is, I want to know about it! So leave your comments or shoot me an e-mail. Tell me your success story!

Please Excuse the Mess

Yea, I made a small mistake. Was trying to do this on a test blog and ended up in the wrong window and publishing way too early. Please excuse the mess while I get everything buttoned up.

The Undermine Journal: Hell Yes! It's back!

Just in case you live in a cave, The Undermine Journal is back! If you're new to the gold making community, or you are a seasoned veteran The Undermine Journal is one of the best resources on the web when it comes to Gold Making Research.

During past months, The Undermine Journal was forced to close it's doors due to changes in Blizzard inner-wokrings in regards to the WoW Armory. However, changes have been made and have allowed The Undermine Journal to re-open there doors.

If I had to recommend one tool to help you learn and understand your markets, the tool is The Undermine Journal

Chimera's Eye: Flip 'em!

It is no doubt that the Jewelcrafting Daily quest is one of the most profitable quests in the game. Whether you are collecting the tokens to buy cuts, supplying raw common gems to the auction house, or just pocketing your daily penance of gold, the daily quest will always reward you.

However, one thing that I wanted to talk about were Chimera's Eye. They cost one Jewelcrafting Token each and are used by Jewelcrafters to gain their extra gem bonus. They are pretty much the same thing as the Dragon's Eye of WoTLK. These sell because some Jewelcrafters like to keep all of their tokens for cuts. While others rather get one gem a day and make a little gold.

Currently, the market doesn't have a large influx of Chimera's Eye. And for good reason. Many people are still collecting cuts and even fewer people are jumping on the chance to drop 300g on one gem. However, if you follow trade chat or can make one or two proactive tells, you can find yourself with a load of these gems to flip.

Here is an example. I saw someone spamming this morning selling 15 Chimera's Eye in trade chat for 250g each. He had obviously just cashed in quite a few tokens. I know the price hovers around 290-330g on my server. So I sent him a quick tell offering to buy them all for 200g each. About 3 minutes later, I was the proud owner for 15 freshly minted Chimera's Eye.

I then listed the gems at the bottom end of what they sell for, enticing normal buyers to think they are getting a good deal. While in reality, I stand to make about 80g on each one.

This is an easy one to get into, especially if you're looking for items to flip. As the days continue, more and more people will be adding these gems and getting Jewelcrafters to unload them to you now on the cheap will be very profitably in the long run.

Enjoy!

Enchanting: Stack Size Matters!

Here is a quick tip that you may have been over looking. I know I have been. If you've been doing the Obsidium Shuffle to gain Enchanting Materials, then you know demand has started to slow down. At least it has for me anyway. At the height of everyone leveling up Enchanting no matter the cost, I could easily throw 10 Stacks of Greater Celestial Essence and 20 Stacks of Hypnotic Dust on to the Auction House and have them all sold in the matter of hours.

However, things are beginning to change. I've noticed that if I only post in large stack sizes, my goods do not liquidate as quickly. So I've gone back to the old way of posting in different stack sizes. Fortunately for me, the Auction House makes this very easy and everything is plug and play. Since I've started posting in different stack sizes, I'm selling items much faster, and finding my self re-listing far less often.

For Great Celestials, I use:
1 Stacks
2 Stacks
5 Stacks
10 Stacks

For Hypnotic Dust, I use:
5 Stacks
10 Stacks
20 Stacks

I know what you're thinking, why don't you mark up the Hypnotic Dust and sell them in singles as well? Two reasons: The market is too saturated and often times undercut deeply. I don't want to waste my time going through hundreds of returned single stack Hypnotic dusts. I have more things that I can be doing.

This can apply to a lot of markets. Look and see what people are buying. Correlate those numbers to certain recipes if you are selling raw materials, and then list your items in stack sizes that work well with those recipes. You may be surprised to find that your items begin to sell a little more often!

Did you forget about your stockpile?

Cataclysm has been great to us. We've all been studying new markets, creating new niches, and making tons of gold. Whether it's the Obsidium Shuffle, Glyph making, fishing, archeology, etc we've all kind of developed our new routines. At least, I know I have. My daily routine is pretty simple. When I'm fortunate enough to get to log on I use my daily transmutes, browse the AH and begin crafting. I then post my wares and reap my profits. It's been hard for me to stray from that.

However, today while I was prospecting my heart out something caught my attention. It was a message in trade chat. It said "WTB Netherweave bags pst". I read it and didn't think anything about it. Then I paused and did a double take. "Why is this person trying to buy these bags in trade? Are there not a million of them on the Auction House?" My curiosity kicked in and I headed to investigate. Much to my surprise I find a whole 11 bags listed. All of them at 60g I might add. I promptly head to the bank withdraw 20 and post them at 35g. Almost all of them have sold, and I have not been undercut.

This got me thinking. Are other things that are sitting in my bank collecting dust that I stockpiled at the end of wrath also over priced?

The answer? For the majority of the items, yes! Things like Netherweave Bags, Rune Cloth, Frostweave Cloth, Greater Cosmics, Infinite Dust, Saronite Ore etc. It seems to me people aren't farming these things or are neglecting to post them on a regular basis. There may not be a ton of demand, but you could easily find yourself the owner of a nice new niche market with a little bit of research.

So go check in on your stockpile. Dust off those goods and get them back on the Auction House. You may be pleasantly surprised with the results!
