3 Ways To Make Gold You've Probably Never Tried

Variety is the spice of life. As Gold makers, we some times find ourselves falling into very profitable routines. Whether they be mixing specific professions, posting on proper schedules, or even simply dominating markets by overpowering them. Whatever your specialty is, you’ll sometimes forget that there are other things out there that can be a lot of fun, but make you a good amount of Gold at the same time.

One of the things I have experienced as of late is running into monotony of sorts. My most profitable Gold Making ability is the Obsidium Shuffle. As far as sheer Gold Per Hour, there is nothing in this game that can beat it for me currently. However, with comes the boredom of falling into that same daily routine. While it’s fun to log on every morning and find myself with a healthy amount of gold sitting in my mailbox, what isn’t fun is not being able to venture out into the rest of the game. So I’ve put together three excellent ways to make Gold that you may have never thought of. Or perhaps you’ve thought about it, but never tried it? Or maybe you know everything and probably should skip to the next post. Whatever you chose, I hope you enjoy :P

The Trusty Dungeon Run:

It’s an oldy but a goody. One of my favorite ways to make gold, while beating things up is providing low level characters with dungeon runs. Essentially, all you do is clear the dungeon for the low level toon, in exchange for them paying you. You win by making quick and easy gold for saving/investing and they win by having the experience gains. If you have a make level toon that is awesome at AOE then jump on this. I've seen players pay upwards of 100g run before.

Be a Tank:
This one is a fantastic opportunity. The great part about it is it is easier then you think. When you read that, you immediately went "My 85 is a Mage. I can't tank. Stupid." Not true, I say! Play an Alt! I know you have at least one low level alt who has a spec for tanking. You don't have to be 85 to make money for this. Using the dungeon finders functionality along with quick ques, being a tank can make you a bucket of gold at any level. Sure people may not paying out right as if you were giving them runs, but playing at alt tank will allow you to loot low level items that can be turned into a tidy profit on the auction house. So rainy Sunday? Be a tank!

Quest Guide:

Another great way to make some money off of leveling Characters is by being a Quest Guide. No, this doesn't mean telling them where to go and what to do, this means doing it for them. Take a Zone like Nagrand for instance. There are lots of kill X number of Blank Quests, and there is also the Ring of Blood quests. These quests provide lots of experience but take a decently long time to solo as a toon that is the appropriate level to that zone. Take advantage of this. Offer up your services in General Chat they you will help with said quests for a small fee. You'll have a couple of bites in no time.

Sure these may not be ways that are going to make you rich overnight, but they will in fact make you Gold. You may be 500g a away from next shiny mount or piece of gear. Implementing these little tricks will get you there in no time!

Limitless: Gold Making Ideas

I’m not a big movie buff. Wouldn’t claim to be, however, there are some films where the trailer really draws me in. Limitless was one of these. If you’re not familiar with the movie, find the trailer here: Limitless Trailer
I won’t spoil anything for you, encase you want to go see it but I will give you a rough overview. Essentially the film is based around a writer who is struggling for ideas. Has finally landed a book contract, but has hit a creative plateau. He eventually comes into contact with a drug that allows him to use his entire brain. He can see clearer and make better decisions. The film goes on to follow his unending chase for this drug.

I know what you’re thinking. “I don’t read this site for horrible movie reviews.” I know, I wouldn’t either. But it got me thinking, and the film had a lot of similarities to some of the issues that many Gold Makers run into. One of the most common questions I’ve run into since becoming a Gold Blogger is “I’m stuck at XX,XXX Gold, can you help me?”

I see a lot of similarities there. You feel you’ve reached your plateau, and are reaching out for someone to give you that wonder drug that will make you reach your ultimate goals and send you on a permanent upswing. Unfortunately, I hate to be the person to break you heart. There is no wonder drug for Gold Making in WoW. In fact, not only is there no wonder drug, but there is also nothing secret I can write back to you in an e-mail that will make you rich over night. However, there is one thing that can permanently change the way you see the game, perceive markets, and act on investing opportunities.

Research

If you want to be a better gold maker, never have to worry about the financial aspect of the game again, then it all comes down to the amount of research that you do, and how you input that research back into your own gold making strategies. That is your wonder drug. That is your golden ticket to the chocolate factory. It is the only way you can better arm yourself in the battle for economic control.

So that’s my tip for you. Do your research. Study graphs and server statistics with sites like The Undermine Journal. Participate on Bloggers comments sections, and read and listen to any gold making information you can get your grubby goblin hands on. The more you know, the better suited you will be for becoming successful.

The Rift Affect: It will make you rich, I promise.

Bold statement? I know. But it’s true! I’m an honest guy, and I’m going to be very honest with you guys. I know very little if anything about Rift. All I know is that it has caused quite the commotion within the WoW community. Not just for Gold Makers, but for everyone. People that have been with the game for years are taking a trip to Rift to see if the grass is really greener on the other side. Me however? I couldn’t careless. All I know is now is PRIMETIME to take advantage of what Rift has brought to the World of Warcraft economy.

As I stated on my post “Is WoW Ready for a Corpse Run?” things are slowly changing. Servers are becoming a little less populated, people aren’t as active, and some Auction House items are either over supplied or under supplied. This is the perfect time for you, dear reader, to capitalize.

I am without a doubt, 100 percent certain, that Rift has drawn away prominent players from your server. Raiders, PvP’ers, Farmers, and Auctioneers. What is one to do? Replace them! Take a look at your Auction House. Find out what is selling, what is oversupplied and underpriced, what’s in hot demand and cannot be kept stock. Take advantage of this! Use tools like the Undermine Journal to help you pinpoint keys to success on your server. Go back and check in your to your old markets. Here is a prime example:

I use to compete in the Netherweave Bag market, lots of players use to be in this market. However, I most of us were forced out due to two players lowering the price of bags to the price of cloth. Given the time involved to craft, I gave it up. Upon recent return to the market, I’ve noticed neither of those guys are still involved, and the market is pretty much up for grabs. Did Rift take them? Did they quit? I don’t know, but it really doesn’t matter. This is now an opportunity for me. I set the prices and I will dominate the market as long as a I can.

There are fantastic areas in your servers economy right now that Rift has opened up for you. Now is the time to take your financial situation in your own hands and feel the void in which other players have left. Now go make the most of it!

Obtaining and Maintaining Wealth In World Of Warcraft: Part 2: Spend less then you Make

In the second part of my 5 Part Series, I want to touch on one of the most Golden rules of obtaining wealth. This applies to all levels of Wealth, not just in WoW. This is a simply concept, but can make you much more efficient in your Gold making efforts. Now, it’s a little different when you incorporate this concept into the game. In real life, this would be a concept that is tied to not being in debt. However, with the lack of debt in WoW, the principle has to be applied a little bit differently. Here is the scenario:

You raid on a weekly basis. Your average income for a week is 1,000g. This could come from a mixture of Dailys, Farming, Professions etc. Your average raid repair bills are 700g. This leaves you with 300g. Rather then spending this 300g on a vanity item, an enchant or an alt, you should be saving it. Saving it to invest in a profession, more raw materials, or whatever it is you do to make gold. If you spend this money, and deplete all of your liquid gold, you will fall into a routine. The routine is you never have any money, because you’re spending everything that you make.

If you can’t figure out how to fix that by making more Gold, then you have to fix it by spending less Gold. This allows you to take that 300g a week build it bigger. Once your nest egg has grown, it will be time to move onto investing it. But first, we have to stop spending all the gold you have. One great way to do this is to pretend you don’t have it. Send any extra gold you have to an Alt. Keep it off your main, this will help ensure you don’t splurge on something unnecessary and allow you to continue you build your wealth while you move onto the next step in the process.

Fishing: Make your Niche with Albino Cavefish!

In a recent post by Cold of Cold’s Gold Factory he wrote about finding new and different niche markets which a player can take advantage of. In his most recent post, he wrote about Deepstone Oil for the Vial of Sands Mount. Deepstone Oil is obtained by alchemist through the Albino Cavefish. If you’ve read any of my posts before, you know I love fishing in this game. This is a great way for anyone with the fishing skill to pick up some easy gold, and more importantly get experience in finding and controlling a niche market.

What is so awesome about Albino Cavefish? Well, they are pretty rare as far as fishys go. They can only be found in Deepholm, and for the best results you really need to fish them up from pools. While they can be caught in open water, it can become a little tedious, and you will actually end up with more of other varieties of fish then the fish we are after. Once you’ve ventured into Deepholm, Needlerock Cavern and the Crimson Expanse offer great ways great opportunities to fish up the hidden gems. However, be aware that this is an 82+ zone, and mobs can make things a little tricky. My advice, turn on pool tracking and fly to what you can see as the best spot.

As Cold pointed out, he is selling the Deepstone Oil in stacks of 8, to supply those who are after the Vial of Sands mount. Price and stack your fish accordingly. If you’re not an alchemist and simply supplying the raw material, leave a little room for the alchemist to make some as well, this will entice them to buy your product rather then going and fishing it themselves.
This is an easy market to break into, and anyone with the secondary fishing skill can be successful with. Now go make some money!

Multiple Professions: Don't get overwhelemed

Cold of Cold's Gold Factory put out a great post today in regards to covering multiple professions within the game. The question that he answered was originally posed by Rinbair on our show Auction House Junkies be sure to check out his response.

I wanted to dive a little deeper today into Multiple professions, and hopefully solve a problem that many of you may have when beginning to take on multiple professions. For a long time, I too was someone who only carried two professions. Whatever my main character had at the time. Eventually I leveled more alts, but never really cared for the professions. This was obviously pre-gold making brilliance. But I digress. Anyway, when I got into gold making and started taking it seriously I learned that diversification is the key to being successful.

I would read of all the cool tricks that could be done with interlinking professions. Then I would go find how I could make that trick work for myself. The key here though is not to get tripped up. I would start on one profession, blow all of my liquid and if I got it finished I wouldn't be able to invest into the market and make anything out of it. Or, I would try and level two professions at once, which also would end up spending all of my liquid gold.

It's important to take things slow and make calculated decisions. Remember, we are in this to make money, not lose money so we can get to the top of the mountain the fastest. Take it slow and focus on one profession at a time.

If you're strapped for cash, I recommend starting with a duel gathering toon and taking what you gathered and investing into your next profession.

Don't go pick up all the professions you don't have covered in one day and try to knock them all out. You will quickly be overwhelmed and get burnt out. What works is taking it slow and always keep your liquid gold available for investing. If you deplete all of your capital, you could find yourself missing prime opportunities along the way.

Have questions or comments about Multiple Professions? Send them to AuctionHouseJunkies@live.com and we will do our best to answer them on the show!

Discussion: Is WoW Ready for a Corpse Run?

This post in merely a discussion post to see what the Gold Blogging Community thinks about the game in its current state. Nothing more, nothing less.

I logged this morning. I jumped in to snatch up some good deals and post them to the Auction House. It's been awhile since I had logged in. I noticed most of my auctions had expired. Things that would not normally expire. Common commodities. Confused, I went to the Auction House and started doing some scans. Found 400 stacks, yea 400 stacks of Obsidium Ore listed at 45g. (Bought them all) Found hundreds of Green Quality Gems listed at 7g (2g less then the cut value) bought all of those. At first, I was super excited. I'm gonna make some serious bank! Then I realized something and it made me take a step back. Why is all of this here?

At first I thought, I must have just found a farmer who dumped some inventory. However, upon searches of other markets tons of gathered stuff was up at great profit margins. Or what use to be great profit margins.

I then started looking at other things. Orgimmar was not densely populated. I check out my guild, at the average last time online for a player was 18 days. I could all be a coincidence, or could it be something greater?

Is WoW dying? It decline? On the tail end of it's life span? I know these are things that most of us don't want to hear or think about, but is it possible? Is the game for ever changed by new competition? Cold of Cold's Gold Factory wrote a great article on this as WoW The Current State of WoW

However, seeing it for my own eyes makes it even more apparent then I thought it was before. What do you guys think? Is there a slow down? Are we going to see servers slowly being combined to keep people who want to play playing? Or am I just reading too much into things?

Let me know what you think.

Cold's Gold Factory Blogging Carnival: What was your defining moment?

This post is written in contribution to Cold's Gold Blogging Carnival. A monthly blogging Carnival hosted by Cold of Cold's Gold Factory. Be sure to check him out daily for gold making updates.

Hello hello hello! Welcome new readers who Cold has graciously allowed me to borrow for a few moments. I'm going back Old School today with this months carnival topic. We all had a defining moment. Mine was the subject of my very first post here at Capped By Cata some 8 months ago. In fact, it was a post that has probably been read very little so here it is!

"I finally decided to put something into writing again. I have been in and out of the blogging community in World Of Warcraft for a while. However, after taking an extended break from the game, I’m back and I’m playing the game in a whole new light. One of the most interesting things about WoW for me has always been gold making. Whether it was farming Winterspring for hours in Vanilla, or doing the Saronite shuffle in Wrath, gold always gave you one thing in the game. Freedom.

For the majority of my time in WoW, I was never a rich player. I always made enough gold to get by. However, with the launch of the Achievement system, I started to play the game a little bit differently. I focused in on the Mountain O’Mounts achievement. My quest became to obtain 100 mounts. With the expansion came a large number of gold sinks. A large majority of these were mounts. This is when I made a shift in my game play style. I had to find a way to bring in more gold. This lead me to playing the auction house just enough to make all the gold for those gold sinks.

However, once I obtained those mounts, my desire to keep making gold went down hill. Soon, I quit playing the game and went on without it.

Fast forward to now. I’m beginning to prepare for Cataclysm and all of the new things it has to offer. So my goal now is to take my account from 0 to gold cap before the release of Cataclysm.

More soon!"

Obtaining and Maintaining Wealth In World Of Warcraft: A 5 Part Series

Hello and Welcome!

If you're a returning reader, an Auction House Junkies Fan, or a new reader, then I would once again like to welcome you to my home. A small overview, Capped By Cata has been running since August of 2010. Originally just to follow my journey to the Gold Cap. However, the blog has changed and grown since then.

I have recently taken a small hiatus from Writing, due to an increased worked schedule and added pressure of the job. However, things are starting to get back to normal. My content efforts are now being split between writing here, and recording and editing our Gold Making Podcast Auction House Junkies

In an effort to once again have my readers coming back for the best of the best content, I'm kicking off with a new 5 Part Series about Obtaining and Maintaining in World Of Warcraft.

No matter where you are in your skills as a Gold Maker, these 5 parts can be applied to anyone. Whether when you log in you see 17 gold, or you see 170 gold. These are simple principles that any player can embrace. Moreover, many of these principles can be taken and put into practice with real world finances. So keep that in mind too if you perhaps struggle with your money outside of game.

So lets get started, shall we?

Part 1: Commit

This is the easy thing any player can do. Again this doesn't matter what point on the road to wealth you are on. The easiest thing you can do in changing your financial situation is committing to do so.

It takes a certain amount commitment to change any situation. Once you've decided that you no longer want to scrap by from raid to raid or battle ground to battle ground or even one new piece of Epic Armor to another, and your ready have an unending stream of wealth coming in. Then you are in the right frame of mind.

Obtaining wealth in WoW requires a commitment. As you know, it's a time commitment. Everything in this game takes time. There is no overnight quick fix to make you rich. I can't magically put gold in your bags. All I can do is put you on the correct path and hope that you chose to walk it. Moreover, it requires a commitment to obtaining new and vast amounts of knowledge. The key to unlocking the secrets to unlimited wealth and success in the Economy of WoW, is making sure you know all that you can know. This means taking advantage of resources like this and other Gold Making Blogs. Also being abreast of the best research methods on the Web, such as The Undermine Journal.

That is step one. Committing to success. Once you've committed you have to stay in the frame of mind. Get your mind right and your knowledge pool right, then we will work on getting your Gold right.

I will be continuing this series as the week progresses forward. Be sure to stay tuned and hopefully when all is said and done you will have an excellent idea on the proper ways to Obtain and Maintain Wealth in World Of Warcraft.

As always, if you have any questions, comments, or concerns, please leave them here on the blog. Or, feel free to E-mail me at CappedByCata@gmail.com or follow me and tweet me on Twitter at CappedByCata

I'm back!
