Blizzard reads my Pro Tips: Direbrew Kills Nerfed

I should have known it was too good to be true. Yesterday I put up a Pro Tip letting everyone know that Coren Direbrew was dropping 20 gold per group member, per kill. Unfortunately, that is no longer the case. While I thought it the back of my mind that it could get Nerfed, I wasn't expecting to see it come so quickly. I've looked through several pages of blue posts and can't find anything highlighting it, but I guess I shouldn't expect to.

Congrats to those who got to cash in on some super easy farming. It was a lot of fun killing Direbrew over and over again for 20 gold at time. It even made me spec back to a tank. But alas, my dreams have once again been shattered.

Urgent Pro Tip: Coren Direbrew kills give you 20 gold! Unlimited farming!

Talk about easy money! I logged in today and a Tankard of Terror was sitting on the Auction House for 7600 gold. Then I realized, it was a Tankard that had a 365 Ilvl. I thought to myself "New 365 DPS Trinket!" So I hop in the queue and do a couple kills. As a tank I was able to instant queue and kill Direbrew over and over with the same group. Queue as DPS, I had almost the same luck but being a tank was a little bit better. After doing about 10 kills focused only on what trinkets were dropping, I noticed that each time I was receiving anywhere from 16g to 22g per kill. I did a double take. It takes roughly 2 minutes or less, start to finish to queue and kill the boss. If you were able to do that for an hour straight, you're looking at a cool 1,200 gold. Sure, that's in a perfect world, but could it really get any easier to make 20 gold?

Screw farming anything for the next 16 days. This is guaranteed 20g on average a kill. If you spent only an hour a day doing this for the next 16 days you would make an easy 19,000 gold. For doing almost nothing! Mix that in with your existing sales, and you're knocking it out of the park.

Make an Easy 10k with the Unbreakable Guardian

Well, this has been a busy week in everything else but gold making. With that in mind I wanted to share one of the things I have been doing this week. I've wrote in the past about all of the new 365 item level weapons that came out after patch 4.1. I've been taking advantage of one of these weapons in particular. The tanking sword. I don't know why, but for some reason it seems to sell pretty well. By pretty well, I mean one to two a week.

Obtaining the Materials:
The biggest cost in regards to materials are the 8 truegold bars that you need. The easiest way to come up with these is by using your alchemist army. I have found over the past few weeks that my procs are coming back on truegold. I really think Blizzard pushed the pause button on transmutes right when the new weapons hit the servers. Either that, or I'm a conspiracy theorist. With my three alchemists, I can come up with enough bars for at least 3 of these a week. But more often then not, I make and move two of them. Outside of the cost of the materials the only real cost is the orbs. Since I do not have a Blacksmith that can run heroics, I'm having to buy orbs.

The price of orbs has come down to a much more reasonable price then what I predicted earlier in the patch. I've found myself paying a much more reasonable 250 gold per orb, or 1250 gold per item created.

Because I'm buying the majority of my mats in bulk at a discount, and take advantage of the procs in regards to my alchemists, including the orbs I have only 2,000-3,000 gold on average invested in each item that I craft. I'm currently getting anywhere from 10-14,000 gold per Unbreakable Guardian listed. I don't sell them quickly, but they do sell. Usually on one 48 hour posting cycle.

If you're looking for an item that you don't have to babysit and can bring in a big profit with one sell, look at the Unbreakable Guardian.

10 Ways to Prepare for Epic Gems in Patch 4.3

Disclaimer:
You may have noticed me posting a little less than normal over the recent weeks. While I have been busy working in real life and on some other projects, the real reason is because there isn't a whole lot to talk about! I want to put out the best content possible, not just filler posts. Once things begin to evolve again, I'll be posting more. So just keep that in mind!

10 Ways to Prepare for Epic Gems in Patch 4.3
I've been wanting to write this post for a long time. I've been constantly brainstorming about the different things players can do to prepare themselves for Epic Gems. Just like other markets, when Epic Gems drop, profits will be gigantic. Those who are first to the table as suppliers will reap the largest benefits. With that in mind, I'm going to pack this post full of my top 10 ways to prepare. While some of these may seem like common sense, others may not. This isn't a high level overview. We're going back to basics to make sure you're successful!

1. Be a Jewelcrafter!
No brainer, right? While you don't have to be a jewelcrafter to take advantage of Epic Gems coming into the market, it certainly helps. Now is prime time to be leveling up a Jewelcrafter or two...or three. The bigger your profession arsenal is, the better. With the time between now and patch 4.3 there is no reason you shouldn't have a level 85* Jewelcrafter ready to go. That is, if you're serious about Gold Making.

2. Be Level 85*!
This follows the exact same thought process. While in former patches patterns where available to everyone who was max level in the profession, this may not be the case with Patch 4.3. We could very easily see another hoop to jump through to obtain patterns. The Molten Front is a great example of this. You don't want to have your Jewelcrafter sitting at level 75 and not be able to obtain the new patterns. You have time to level, so get to it!

3. Finish the Molten Front
I'll be honest, I don't want to do this but I'm going to. The last thing you want is completing the Molten Front to be a requirement to obtain patterns and not have it complete. While it's a long shot that Blizzard would put such a road block in front of the new patterns, it's better safe than sorry.

4. Do Your Jewelcrafting Daily!
Tokens, tokens, tokens! While it's good to be prepared for other scenarios, you also need to be prepared for the most basic. You need to have a minimum of 30 tokens ready to go. If patterns do come up on the Jewelcrafting vendor, I would imagine them to cost 6 tokens each. 30 would open the door to 5 cuts right off the bat.

5. Hit Justice Point Cap
You need to keep your justice points capped. Or at least to the point where you could cap them once announcements are made. If it takes you a week to cap them, make sure you can be ready to go. If it takes a month, start earlier. If gems are available here, you'll want to take advantage.

6. Hit Valor Point Cap
This follows the same logic. I would doubt Epic Gems would show up on Valor vendors, but it's possible. You need to have a full cap ready to go here. I would still recommend having these capped.

7. Hit Honor Point Cap
Same thing. Keep your honor capped. These are at least interchangeable to an extent with Justice points. So if the gems appear on one vendor then you've got more points to spend, even if you lose points on the transition.

8. Hit Conquest Point Cap
Again, just because these could appear on the vendor, I think it's paramount you have all of these maxed out. It's not difficult to do. Especially with the amount of time we have between now and patch 4.3.

9. Take a Chance on Pyrite
There is a very good chance that pyrite could be prospect-able into Epic Gems. At least, that's what we saw in Wrath. If you're a gambler or just have a larger bankroll, take a chance and invest in pyrite when you see it on the cheap. This is a High-Risk High-Reward market. This is not for the faint of heart. You don't want to have a guild bank full of this stuff if you're worried about losing your investment. Nothing is guaranteed at this point.

10. Build Your Bankroll
You have to pay to play. We all know this. You can never have to much liquid gold. Keep that liquid available. Blizzard could make patterns a huge gold sink to pull money back out of the economy from the Obsidium Shuffle. It's a long shot, but hey anything can happen? You'll also need gold available to buy up gems in trade people try and offload from vendors if things go that route. Moreover, you'll need to buy pyrite if things go that way too. So having plenty of Gold to spend is going to make being profitable that much easier.

I hope this information helps. Epic Gems are probably the last big "Hoorah" for Gold Makers in Cataclysm. Don't miss out on this opportunity.

Gold Making Videos?

Alright everyone, this is a discussion post and I would really really like some feedback from you guys. If you read the blog for a day or for a year please leave a comment with your opinion. I want to bring you the very best content on the web and I need your input to do that.

For awhile now I've been considering making Gold Making videos and hosting them via YouTube. The reasoning behind this is the conceptual nature of everything that we do as Gold Makers. While the site tends to harken back to the adage "teach a man to fish and he'll eat for life" mantra, sometimes ideas and concepts come together a lot clearer through video.

I also want to be able to show how some concepts can make you instant gold and others are going to have you being a little more patient. I've reached out to some other gold bloggers for some help with video making, so hopefully if you guys like the idea it can come about in a pretty quick fashion.

If you've never seen a Gold Making video, I suggest you check out Flux over at Power Word: Gold. He puts out some very informational and entertaining stuff. If I could do half as well as he does, I think I would be happy. But please, if you're reading this leave your input. I really want to know what you guys think about the idea. I don't to invest time into something the readers here won't enjoy. Thanks again!

What the World Of Warcraft Starter Edition Means to a Gold Maker

This is an interesting topic I've been wanting to touch on for awhile. With the addition of the "Starter Edition" of World Of Warcraft, I've pondered how this could effect the current in game economy.

The run down of what a new player on the trial edition can do is pretty straight forward.  They can play as long as they like at level 20.  It's essentially a 14 day trial with no time limit.  They still cannot use the Auction House, mail system, guild system or trade channel.  However, to the best of my knowledge they can interact with all of these functions.  Example of that meaning they can see the auction house and read trade chat, but not interact with it. With that information, I have a couple ideas of how you can take advantage of those new players for increased revenue.

Build Profession Kits
This is the easiest, and probably my favorite idea.  I love building profession kits for profit.  Anything from alchemy to leather-working, low level mats can be hard to come by and valuable.  Putting these kits together will be beneficial for you in the long run.  I want to show you the best way to use these new level 20 players to build the front end of your profession kits.

Keep Prices High
If you're going into to this as a niche market, you need to go in with a game plan.  I wouldn't call this bait and switch, I would call it more of "too good to be true".  Pick your market that you are going to build a kit for.  Whether it be leather-working, black-smithing or whatever else.  Once you've done that, pull up a profession list and look at what pieces are needed.  Let's take light leather for example.  What you essentially want to do is bolster the market to make light leather appear to be worth more then it is.  For example, average price of a stack of light leather on my server is 8g according to The Undermine Journal. I now want to buy out those stacks and re-list them at a higher price.  Perhaps 20g a stack, or more.  I'm not trying to sell these at 20g a stack.  I'm just trying to present the preception to new players that a stack of light leather is worth 20g.  So when a player goes to the auction house and tries to find out how much an item in their bag is worth, they will see that light leather is valuable.

I then want to keep the price high for the next week, or several weeks depending on your server and the market your in.  Continuously letting new players see your over priced item.  My hope is that while they continue to experience the game they will farm leather.  When they eventually sign up for the game and gain access to the auction house, is where the real fun begins.

The hope is that several players at a time will start listing their items.  Similar to the price that I now control.  At that point, I remove my items and begin to undercut them.  Because they are unfamiliar with the game, hopefully they will buy in to this tactic.  Between me and a few other new players in the market, my hope is that I can crash they market and purchase all their farmed goods at next to nothing prices.  These then go to my leveling kits, not for resell on the auction house.

This tactic can be expanded to several markets.  It's not fool-proof, as several variables are in place.  The biggest one of which is whether players will actually take up professions, and out of those that do how many will convert to actual subscribers that can sell their goods.  It is however, something good to keep in mind.  If you start seeing an influx of new players on your server it may be a great time to implement this strategy.  Hell, you might not even need new players to make this beneficial.
